Privacy policy

Effective 18 September 2026.

We don't sell or share anything, don't use cookies, and collect nothing about you unless you choose to write to us.

What we don't do

No cookies. No accounts or logins. No mailing list. No ads or ad trackers. No selling or sharing data, there's none to sell.

What we do collect

Counts of how often each page was read. Every page carries a single invisible dot, one pixel wide, and your browser fetches it the way it fetches any other image. The address of that dot is the name of the page you are on, so asking for it is what does the counting.

We would rather tell you it is there than have you find it. Here is exactly what it does and does not do.

It sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device, and uses no JavaScript, because this site has no scripts at all and its security policy blocks them outright. It carries no identifier of any kind, so a second visit by you and a first visit by somebody else look identical to us. We never record your IP address, and we cannot follow you from one page to the next.

What it tells us is how many people read a page, and roughly which country and what kind of device. That is the whole of it.

Why bother, on a site like this one: without it we could not tell a reader from an automated scanner, and most of the traffic here is automated. Knowing which pages are actually read by people is how the writing gets better.

If you block images, you are simply not counted, and nothing else changes.

We deliberately do not use Cloudflare Web Analytics, even though it is cookie-free, because it needs a tracking script on every page. A dot you can block is a smaller ask than a script you cannot see.

If you use the feedback form, what you type is emailed to the maintainer and also kept as a record, so that reports can be followed up properly rather than lost in an inbox.

The record is stored on Cloudflare, the same company that already serves this site. The email is sent through Cloudflare too, but it is delivered to the maintainer's Gmail account, so Google handles that copy the way it handles any other email. Nothing is added to any list and nothing is sold or shared.

The record holds what you wrote, the date, the country your request came from, and your email address only if you chose to give one. It does not hold your IP address, your browser, or anything that identifies your device. It is not connected to the page counts described above, so a message can never be tied to what you read.

Records don't stay forever. A message is deleted automatically 90 days after it arrives. If a report is still being dealt with, it can be marked to keep, and then it lasts 12 months. That's a ceiling and not an extension that gets renewed, so nothing you write here is held for more than a year. The deleting is done by a job that runs every day, so it doesn't depend on anybody remembering to do it.

If you would like your message deleted sooner, ask, and it will be. Say roughly when you wrote in and we will find it.

Prefer email? translations [at] trustbutverifyproject [dot] org reaches the same place and is kept the same way.

Standard server logs: Cloudflare briefly logs technical request data (like IP address) for security, same as nearly every site online. We don't use it for anything about you individually.

What we never do with it

We don't sell, rent or share what little we hold. We don't profile you, build an advertising audience, or hand anything to a data broker. Nobody buys anything from this site, so there's no payment data here at all.

We'd disclose a record if the law actually required it, and we'd rather have almost nothing to disclose, which is the point of collecting almost nothing.

Children

This site is written for adults, usually older adults and the people who care about them. It isn't directed at children, and it collects nothing from anyone that would let us tell how old they are.

Where it's held

The page counts and any message you send are held on Cloudflare, which serves this site, and a copy of each message arrives in the maintainer's Gmail. Both are companies in the United States, so that's where the records sit. If you're writing from elsewhere, that's what you're choosing when you send it.

Asking us about your message

If you sent a message and want it gone sooner than the deadline above, ask, and it will be deleted. Say roughly when you wrote in so it can be found. You can also ask what we hold about a message you sent. There's no account to log into, because there are no accounts.

Keeping it safe

The site is served over HTTPS. Messages travel to the maintainer over the same connection you'd expect of any site, and the stored record sits behind Cloudflare's access controls. No system is perfect, and we don't promise one is, which is another reason this site asks for so little.

When this policy changes

The date at the top is the version. If this changes in a way that matters, that date changes with it, and the change is described in plain words rather than slipped in.

Why

A site about not letting scammers take your information can't quietly take yours either, even with good intentions. So we don't collect what we don't need, rather than collect it and promise to be careful.

Questions

If this doesn't match what the site actually does, that's a bug, tell us. Use the feedback form, or write to translations [at] trustbutverifyproject [dot] org.
